Centre of excellence for Childhood studies

In our Industry Excellence Academy for Childhood Studies, you’ll develop all the skills that the childcare and education sector are crying out for. If you are a compassionate, patient, nurturing and encouraging person with an ability to recognise what each child requires in order to flourish, we’ll help you hone your natural instincts into professional skills.

You’ll gain an understanding of the skills and knowledge needed to care for young children including issues around safeguarding, health and safety. You’ll also learn about child development, how to provide support to children and how to teach through play and activities.

Depending on your level of study you will also complete up to 2 weeks' work experience with one or more than one employer; this can either be completed in separate days throughout your course or in a single block.  You’ll also receive dedicated ‘employability’ sessions that will equip you with the skills that you’ll need to thrive in the workplace.

When you complete your journey in our Centre of Excellence for Childhood Studies you will have all the skills you need to be ‘work ready’ and the qualifications you need to take the next steps towards an amazing career.

Available Courses

While studying in our Centre of Excellence you can obtain qualifications ranging from Entry Level and Level 3 certificates through to Extended Diplomas. If you haven’t already obtained a Grade 4 GCSE in English or maths you’ll also study to achieve this level of qualification, which is a mandatory requirement of your course and essential for many careers.

In our Centre of Excellence for Childhood Studies you’ll develop an in-depth knowledge of this sector and gain work experience with industry leaders.

The course has given me a lot more information about how to help other people. I now know different ways to talk to people with learning difficulties. Going forward I would like to go on to the second year of this course and then progress on to university so I can go into teaching children with learning difficulties in the future.
